Chandigarh: A drug smuggler who was wanted in a 532 kg heroin seizure case was arrested by Punjab police today from Haryana, police said.
Ranjeet Singh Rana has been arrested from a hideout in Sirsa in Haryana, Dinkar Gupta, Punjab Police Director General (DGP), told news agency Press Trust of India.
Ranjeet Rana was wanted in a drugs haul case where the customs department had seized 532 kg of heroin worth Rs 2,700 crore at the Integrated Check Post at Attari in Amritsar last year in rock salt consignments.
He was the drug haul Kingpin.
Rana has been arrested following the recent arrest in Amritsar of terror operatives from Hizbul Mujahideen.
"After further arrests of Hizbul operatives in Jammu and Cashmir and Punjab, the Punjab Police juggernaut went on to arrest Ranjeet of Amritsar, one of India's biggest drug traffickers from Sirsa today. Cheeta was wanted in 532 kg Attari heroin haul in June 2019," the DGP tweeted.
His brother was also arrested along with Ranjeet Rana in an operation conducted in Haryana by the Punjab Police.
"Ranjeet Rana & his brother Gagandeep@Bhola were arrested from the village of Begu in Sirsa, Haryana. Ranjit Rana@Cheeta, accused of smuggling heroin & other narcotics from Pakistan, was camouflaged during 2018-2019 in as many as 6 rock salt consignments via ICP Amritsar," Mr Gupta tweeted.
