Ujjain emerges as new threat in MP with 165 positive Covid-19 cases and 35 deaths

Ujjain town in Madhya Pradesh is quickly emerging as a hot spot for coronavirus following Indore and Bhopal. With 166 positive cases and 35 coronavirus deaths, Madhya Pradesh's temple town is already declared a hotspot and has won the distinction of reporting the highest death rate of 26.29 per cent.

The state government transferred the Ujjain Collector Shashank Mishra on Monday night and appointed Indore Municipal Corporation Commissar Asheesh Singh in his place.

Asheesh Singh, who had previously served as the municipal commissioner in Ujjain during the 2016 Simhastha Mela, was sent to the town with the understanding that he knows it well.

The action came after the increasing number of cases showed no signs of controlling the novel coronavirus spread.

A town corporator from Bharatiya Janata BJP, Muzaffar Hussain, 55, tested positive in April. Hussain died at Ardi Gardi Medical College, where he had shot a video of himself while receiving treatment, alleging the abysmal state of food and medical amenities.

The state government says that among all Madhya Pradesh cities, it has carried out the highest per million tests of the suspect corona in Ujjain. A total of 3,470 trials were performed. Of this, 2,475 people tested negative and 166 proved positive.
