The government denied a viral message on Friday alleging the Ministry of Electronics & IT (Meity) had imposed restrictions on a range of "Chinese applications" in India. The message conducted internet rounds, alleging that the National Informatics Center (NIC), which is part of the Meity, asked Apple and Google to limit Google Play and App Store Chinese-origin applications with "immediately"
In the viral fake post, the alleged list of Chinese-origin apps included TikTok, Clash of Kings, Game of Sultans, Vigo Video and more.
In a tweet, the government's Press Information Bureau (PIB) checked the viral message and dubbed it fake, saying NIC didn't deliver the message. How does the message mean about the virus?
The viral message posted by PIB Fact Check highlights that the NIC has put an order on Google Play store and Apple's App Store to ban 14 apps produced by Chinese companies. The message claims that the government ordered Google and Apple 's regional executives to limit the apps because they jeopardize the privacy of users and endanger them.
Apps including LiveMe, Bigo Live, Vigo Video, Beauty Plus, CamScanner, Kings Clash, Mobile Legends, Club Factory, Shein, Romwe, AppLock, Vmate, and Sultan Game are included in the list. This also said Apple and Google had been requested by the government to ban TikTok from their respective app stores.
