Why Winston Churchill 's images have vanished from Google search results

Winston Churchill 's pictures started appearing on Google search over the weekend in a curious situation. As many tried to look for British prime ministers and list of leaders of World War II, images of the former UK PM were not visible on the results of the search engine.

The development left online netizens stunned, with many tagging demanding answers from the tech giant. Though the company 'fixed it' after outrage, people have been looking for a proper explanation.

As people searched by his name, instead of Churchill 's picture, a black box appeared. Social media people were quick to point out that images of Adolf Hitler, Stalin and Mao still appeared on the search engine.

The latest episode comes after last weekend's Black Lives Matter protest in central London caused the statue of Churchill to become defaced with the word "racist."

#Churchill‘s picture has been reinstated after being blacked out by @Google.

For hours, we lived in a world where Churchill, who helped defeated Nazism, had been removed for being “racist”, while Hitler and Stalin, two of the greatest mass murderers, were visible.
