Deidre O'Brien, Apple 's head of retail, has posted a letter on the company's website outlining how it plans to safely restart operations at its retail stores. Apple shut down all of its stores outside of Greater China in March as COVID-19 spread throughout the world; all the Greater China stores reopened that same month, while Apple is still taking careful steps elsewhere.
"Our determination is to move forward with a reopening only until we're sure that we can safely return from our stores to serve customers," O'Brien writes. "We look at every piece of data available — including local cases, near- and long-term trends, and guidance from national and local health authorities. These are not decisions that we hurry into — and the opening of a store does not in any way mean we do not take the proactive step of closing it again if local conditions warrant.

The quality of service it provides can vary by shop, says O'Brien. All stores will require customers to make reservations for Genius Bar and pick up items ordered online, but some will provide only storefront or curbside service, rather than letting customers visit the store itself.
O'Brien says that temperature tests will be carried out for those stores that do open their doors, and that will allow all employees and customers to wear face coverings. Apple will provide coverage to customers who do not have their own, and will simultaneously enforce social distance rules with a limited number of people in the store.
"We 're focusing on limiting occupancy in every store and giving everyone plenty of room, and renewing our focus on one-on-one, personalized service at and through the Genius Bar," O'Brien writes.
