Coronavirus In India LIVE UPDATES: With the Central Government expanding the nationwide lockdown until May 17 and issuing fresh guidelines for controlling various activities over the period, the situation appears to have turned grim as the country registered 2,293 new cases and the death toll has risen by 71 in the last 24 hours.
- The total number of cases registered in India has crossed the 37,336-mark with 1,218 deaths so far. So far approximately 9,950 people have recovered.
- All economically important metro cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, and Ahmedabad, all of which are labeled red zones, will remain under strict lockdown.

Though Andhra Pradesh continues to record COVID-19 incidents, the good news is that the numbers over the last few days show a slight decline. The state nodal officer registered 62 new cases on Saturday that were identified from the samples checked over the last 24 hours, ending at 10 a.m. Friday.
The state registered 61 cases on Friday too, which contrasts markedly with the high of 82 cases witnessed last Sunday.
Kurnool remains the weak spot for Andhra Pradesh, as 25 cases registered on Saturday by the district. The district has the highest number of cases of coronavirus in the state, with 436 cases. District of Krishna also reported 12 cases while Nellore reported 6 cases.
The districts of Anantapur, Kadapa, and Visakhapatnam reported 4 cases each, and East Godavari reported 3 cases while the district of Guntur detected 2. Districts of Prakasam and West Godavari recorded about 1 case each. In all, no fresh cases were registered by 3 districts, of which Vizianagaram is the only district to remain uninfected to date.
