Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan, who is at the forefront of India 's fight against COVID-19, is scheduled to take charge on May 22, officials said on Tuesday as chairman of the WHO Executive Board.
Harsh Vardhan will replace Dr Hiroki Nakatani of Japan, currently the chairman of the executive board of the 34-member WHO.
On Tuesday, the 194-nation World Health Assembly signed the resolution to name India's candidate to the executive board, officials said on condition of anonymity.
Harsh Vardhan 's assumption of the WHO post seems to be a formality following the announcement that he would be India's candidate as last year's WHO South-East Asia party unanimously agreed that India would be elected to the Executive.
