Netflix, Zee5 See More than 200 percent Rise in India During Lockdown: JustWatch

Streaming services like Disney+ Hotstar and Netflix have greatly benefited from global lockdowns as consumers are searching for content while at home. According to new data from JustWatch 's content aggregation service based on the use of its platform, popular streaming services like Netflix, Disney+, and Amazon Prime Video have seen a worldwide upswing in interest.

Even specifically in India, there has been a huge increase in interest on the JustWatch platform across all main streaming services. Zee5 is the biggest gainer between March 24 and April 24, with an rise of 259 per cent. Netflix saw a 204 percent increase in India over the same period, with Amazon Prime Video (189 percent), AltBalaji (174 percent), JioCinema (161 percent), and  Disney+ Hotstar (149 percent) all saw a significant boost as well.


While the shared data is specific to JustWatch, it is safe to assume that the overall use of streaming services and their popularity has increased on a global scale in a similar way. As people around the world are forced to remain healthy from the coronavirus pandemic in their homes, streaming platforms have provided users with fast and convenient exposure to tv shows and movies to keep themselves entertained.

Even though Zee5 got the biggest boost, Netflix continued to reign supreme among all of India's streaming services, based on JustWatch consumer interest. Netflix accounted for 21 per cent of overall searches, according to the content aggregation site.
