Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw was the Indian Army Chief of Staff (COAS), best known for leading the Indian forces during the 1971 war between India and Pakistan. He was the first Indian officer to be promoted to the rank of a field marshal, popularly named 'Sam Bahadur.'
