The story is about Lata Mehra, a 19-year-old girl who studied at a college. Her mother is trying to convince her to marry a 'good child.' What takes the tale forward is how the girl encounters the prospective grooms and tries to examine her feelings. A parallel story features Ishaan playing the role of Maan Kapoor who falls in love with the Tabu played courtesan named Saeeda Bai.
A Suitable Boy is the TV adaptation of the novel of the same name by Vikram Seth. In the post-Partition period the book tells the stories of four families.
Including Tabu and Ishaan, A Suitable Boy also plays pivotal roles with Tanya Maniktala, Rasika Dugal, Savita Kapoor, Randeep Hooda, Shefali Shah, Ram Kapoor and Shahana Goswami among others.
