Update on Coronavirus: Would India expand its lockdown? PM Modi addresses policy with CMs on COVID-19

With India entering the final week of nationwide lockdown, Prime Minister Narendra Modi today held a video conference to discuss the way ahead with the chief ministers. This was the fourth such meeting between PM Narendra Modi and the chief minister of state after the outbreak occurred.
According to the Ministry of Health and Welfare, today the total number of cases with coronavirus has risen to 27,892. Meghalaya, Mizoram, Puducherry, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Odisha, Bihar, Gujarat, and Haryana's chief ministers have spoken about the further tactics to counter deadly coronavirus that killed nearly 900 people in the region. Meghalaya and Odisha had advised PM Narendra Modi to expand the lockdown with a few more riders. From the lockout strategy to the start of economic activities in the Member States, here are the main issues addressed during the meeting.

According to reports, the lockdown has played an effective role in suppressing coronavirus spread, hailing the joint efforts of the states and the center.

"We mooted to continue the post-May 3 lockdown with relaxation on activities in green areas or non-covid districts affected in Meghalaya," Conrad Sangma said after discussing COVID-19 strategy with PM Modi.

PM Modi said, "For a long time now, COVID-19 has become part of our lives. Given the danger it presents, we should not compromise on one thing: maintaining social distance. It should be a motto for all- 'do gaj doori.' We should keep spreading this message and be a life lesson for all. Similarly, masks or face coverings should become a big part of our lives.

 Gujarat Chief Minister Rupani says the Center will reach a decision to prolong the lockdown in the country's interest. He said the state would comply by the decision on the issue by the Centre.

For the economic revival of states in the midst of coronavirus lockdown, a committee of ministers and experts was formed, Uttarakhand CM said after discussing COVID-19 stategy with Prime Minister Narendra Modi via videoconference.
